Q. 2. Write a short note on 'Chipko movement'.

('चिपको आन्दोलन' पर एक टिप्पणी लिखो।)

Ans. Chipko movement was started in 1973 in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. It was a non-violent movement aimed at protection and conservation of trees and forests from being destroyed.

Chipko means 'embrace', as the villagers used to hug the trees and protect them from as the villagers used wood cutters from cutting them.

The chipko movement gained momentum under Sunderlal Bahuguna, who spent his whole life, educating the villagers to protest against the destruction of the forests.

(चिपको आन्दोलन 1973 में उत्तराखण्ड के चमोली जिले में शुरू हुआ। यह एक अहिंसावादी आन्दोलन था जिसका उद्देश्य वृक्षों व जंगलों को नष्ट होने से बचाना था। 

चिपको का अर्थ है 'गले लगाना' । गाँववासी वृक्षों को लकड़ी काटने वालों से बचाने के लिए उनसे चिपक कर खड़े हो जाते थे।

चिपको आन्दोलन ने सुन्दरलाल बहुगुणा के नेतृत्व में गति पकड़ी, उन्होंने अपना सारा जीवन ग्रामीणों को ये सिखाने में लगाया कि वृक्षों व जंगलों के विनाश पर विरोध करो।
